Belfast/Melbourne based rock group Guerilla State have previously featured many times in Flare Magazine with their debut single Never Taking Me, debut EP Autonomy: Part One and more amazing singles. The band is made up of two members, Rory Robinson, (vocals, synth, piano, guitars, bass, drums) and Michael Dalton, (backing vocals, synth, piano, guitars, bass) and through music, “Guerilla State embodies a fearless form of expression in an age of artistic suppression, a philosophy of autonomy.”
At the end of last month, the band released another single. It demonstrates something completely different with its more stripped back feel, something we haven't really heard from Guerilla State before. Night In The Wild is now available to listen to on the major streaming platforms and I recommend checking it out - it’s safe to say the band have maintained their high standard when it comes to their music
Despite the more stripped back feeling Night In The Wild initially gives off, the familiar sound of Guerilla State is still there. The difference in sound compared to some of the band’s previous releases just demonstrates the talent both members possess further since both members record, mix, and master their own music separately in their own homes.
The sound matches the serious subject Night In The Wild was written about - “a family's daunting escape from a Middle Eastern warzone.” Along with that, the sound also highlights the easy to pick up lyrics and really pins the listener’s focus on them at the same time as creating a solid backing for the track.
Guerilla State have kept up their high standards with Night In The Wild and have continued their theme of tackling current issues head on with their music. The band’s newest track sits well alongside their previous material, it's dark message but lighter tones make it all the more intriguing and thought-provoking to listen to!
