If you're a fan of supernatural and comedy shows, you'll have definitely heard of Buzzfeed Unsolved, featuring Ryan Bergara (a believer) and Shane (a sceptic).
The Ghoul Boys explore some of the most haunted locations in the U.S., and a few in the UK in an attempt to answer the question, are ghosts real?
With seven seasons, this officially classifies as a binge-worthy series. We recommend watching them in order, but here are our Top 10 to go back and watch, or look forward to!
Take a look at our playlist to find all of our Top 10 in order here:
1. Queen Mary - Season 1 Ep 7
The Queen Mary, the most haunted ship in the U.S. You know what that means, plenty of room for jumpscares. This episode has everything, convincing evidence, the reason Ryan believes in ghosts in the first place, Shane's humour and a terrifying pigeon. Even down to Shane farting and scaring the life out of Ryan, this episode is a strong start to the show and is definitely worth a watch!
2. Waverly Hills Hospital - Season 2 Ep 4
This episode ups the spook value a bit, with Ryan walking to the end of a body chute. Yeah, you read that right. It doesn't come without its comedy though, with Ryan making a perfect butt print on a chair, and a ghost that "just loves to blaze it". It's also the origin of the Shaniacs, and we get to see Shane's reaction to realising he's a ghost hunter. Definitely one to check out!
3. Dauphine Orleans Hotel - Season 2 Ep 9
This episode has what I believe to be some of the most convincing evidence captured in the show. The boys capture incredibly clear footsteps overnight out on the balcony, but on going out there, there's very clearly no one there. That, and the problematic jacuzzi tub, make this a standout episode.
4. Goatman's Bridge - Season 3 Ep 3
Goatman's Bridge is supposedly haunted by a half-man half-goat creature and plays host to a tonne of cult activity in the surrounding woodland. Ryan is so intimidated by this, he step up his use of holy water with a water gun and holster, while Shane very clearly disrespects the bridge when claiming it as his own, and very loudly announces "We're here for the cult stuff", much to Ryan's annoyance.
5. Colchester Castle - Season 3 Ep 9
As one of the few episodes filmed in England, there's a stark contrast in the history of Colchester Castle compared to previously cleared areas. The episode has plenty of moments where Ryan freezes and stares at nothing, making noises of fear, Shane having his intelligence insulted and Ryan eating a several hundred-year-old cobweb. What more could you want?
6. Rolling Hills Asylum - Season 4 Ep 2
Rolling Hills Asylum is a classic haunted building, with long dark hallways, creaky chairs, and bad weather - all of the ingredients for a perfect haunted house. Of course, it's " just another weekend for the boys", but with some compelling evidence of ghosts being helpful, this episode is a must-watch - even to see two men dancing to opera music in the dark, and learning how to say mustard in German!
7. Sorrel Weed House - Season 4 Ep 7
This is one of the most compelling episodes, and we're definitely siding with the Boogaras on this one! Ryan and Shane are filming downstairs when they hear footsteps from upstairs which is cordoned off due to structural issues. But there is a clear response that sounds like a growl or a bark on investigation. The real question is, do you think Ryan caught a FBA (full-body apparition)?
8. Haunting Of Hannah Williams - Season 5 Ep 6
Another episode full of evidence, with Ryan being mocked by some kind of spirit when he tries to turn off the spirit box. For this episode, the boys bring along a Medium, AJ, who picks up on several things that evoke a strong reaction from someone, including sensing the presence of a recently passed father figure named Ron, who is connected to the family. This combined with several different people seeing the same evidence at different times makes this a spooky, convincing episode!
9. St Augustine Lighthouse - Season 6 Ep 2
Ever heard of a ghost cat that's been strapped to a parachute and dropped from the top of a lighthouse? Well, now you have! This episode contains a LOT of the ghoul boys' humour, as well as some convincing evidence, and a terrified Ryan. This is the only episode where Ryan leaves his solo investigation before he starts to psych himself up, and his face throughout the experience shows just how terrified he is.
10. Old City Jail - Season 6 Ep 6
This is a personal favourite of mine, and with a possible FBA, is one of the most convincing too! It goes through a lot of emotions, the boys unbuttoning their shirts and tapping their belly buttons to seduce the ghosts, Shane singing with "wonderful accouustics" and Ryan absolutely losing his mind and going nuts during his solo investigation. Old City Jail has something for everyone, and Is definitely worth a watch!
