Netflix has released a new trailer for upcoming fantasy series Shadow and Bone. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling novel series. Set in a war-torn world, the series will follow orphaned soldier Alina Starkov as she discovers and hones the incredible amount of power she’s capable of wielding in order to free her country. With threats such as the Shadow Fold coming ever closer, Alina is forced to give up everything she knows in order to train with the Grisha army, made up of magic wielding soldiers. Friends and enemies aren’t always distinguishable and when a band of suave criminals get wind of the unfolding events, the danger only increases!
The Netflix production from 21 Laps Entertainment stars Jessie Mei Li as Shadow And Bone’s key protagonist Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Ben Barnes as General Kirigan and Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa and Kit Young as Jesper Fahey. With the show set to air on April 23rd in eight, hour long episodes, it’s definitely time to check out the trailer!
The streaming service released the official trailer for the fantasy series yesterday, the same day that author and executive producer Leigh Bardugo’s newest addition to the Grishaverse, Rule of Wolves. Teasing at many epic battles to come, the trailer certainly portrays the fantastical elements of the show and introduces us to the bad guys. Alina and the First Army soldiers are attacked by dark and mysterious beings haunting the Shadow Fold: the Volcra. General Kirigan appears as Alina’s equal, his dark power countering her affinity with light, proving that they would be an unbeatable duo.
We’re also treated to a look at The Dregs. Fronted by Kaz Brekker, the band of criminals from Ketterdam have their eyes on a million Kruger reward and they fully intend to claim it. The crossover of the Six Of Crows duology and the Shadow And Bone trilogy has a huge amount of potential and if the trailer is anything to go by, we’re definitely going to be transported into an entirely new world. As a Netflix Original, the series also garners high expectations based on the streaming service’s previous original fantasy titles such as Stranger Things.
Leaving some characters known to be appearing in the show mysteriously in the shadows combined with incredible special effects really does build the anticipation of seeing them for the first time! If you’re a fan of the books and are intrigued to see the new path The Dregs will go down, or if you love a good fantasy show, make sure to check out the trailer and add the show to your Netflix watchlist here!
