Wes Chamberlain, an indie pop solo artist based in the South West of the UK, has previously featured in Flare Magazine twice with the release of two new singles. His sound is recognisably made up of “deep guitar, heavy drums, boomy bass, sweet synths and bright vocals” and having already released four singles already, Duvet, I Don't Laugh, When A Good Man Goes To War and Don’t Run on top of six-track EP A Nebulous Vision, Wes is well on his way to creating a solid archive of music!
This month saw the release of a brand new EP featuring six new tracks, two of which you may have heard before! Prologue, When A Good Man Goes To War, Multiversal Man, Heavy Head On The Belly, Don’t Run and Sleep Now make up the EP and definitely fit within the context of Wes’ previous music. Titled Power & Conflict, the EP really shows Wes' love of “blending the psychedelic with the theatrical” well.
Track one, Prologue, is short at only a minute and twenty seconds long and is made up of sound effects and speech. The opening track is immediately followed by When A Good Man Goes To War which comes in slowly and picks up at a really effective speed. Both Prologue and When A Good Man Goes To War work together to set the tone for the album and really give a feel of what’s coming in the rest of the EP.
Multiversal Man and Heavy Head On The Belly are two brand new tracks and really fit well in the album. Multiversal Man is more upbeat than previous tracks and features more harmonies than the songs that come before it - it’s a lot harder to sit still listening to this track. Heavy Head On The Belly comes in slower and features more vocal effects right from the start to bring that psychedelic feel to the album.
Don’t Run follows on as track number four and features a mixture of layered vocals and harmonies throughout the track, adding another layer of depth to the track. The album closes with Sleep Now, a chilled out and stripped back song that really brings Power & Conflict to a fitting end. It’s one of those tracks that leaves you wondering what’s coming next which makes it a good choice for the final song.
